Październik. Otrzęsiny na Uniwersytecie. Piękna forma rzeźbiarska zawieszona w przestrzeni, częściowo oplatająca uniwersytecką bramę, dotyka drzew po jednej i drugiej stronie bramy — jasna, migotliwa, czerwień i biel. I w nietrwałości materiału przemijanie i znikomość.

October. The beginning of the academic year. The ceremony of including the freshmen into the student fellowship. A beautiful sculptural form, hanging in the air and partly twining round the university gate, touches the trees on the one side and the gate on the other — the bright glittering red and white. The air becomes visible — eternity and invariability drawn or perhaps discovered with the lines of the threads. Transitoriness and insignificance in the impermanence of the material. Encounters, bonds, conditionings, choices. Some music is heard — is it the vibrations of the strings or of air warmed up or perhaps caught and sliced in the meshes?

He hung up a net which hindered the freshmen from entering the University grounds — what is the choice? what to accept? should one follow the thread — which one: the white or the red? should one break it — what will be broken? To follow the thread or go in between?

I remember the young people’s remarks:

— beautiful

— like Cosmos

— no, like the cells seen under a microscope

— we are entangled

— it’s very simple — just look at one side and disregard the others

— it’s a spider’s web! Old places, lacking dynamics, are overgrown with spider’s web. Is this our future at the University?

— this is a political sculpture

— this sculpture shows what is usually invisible

— no, you have a choice: either the white or the red

— how sharp these threads are, how strong when woven together

— there is no clear way — one is conditioned everywhere, even here, how terrible!
